Review: Black Rainbow by J.J McAvoy

A sweet and steamy New Adult Romance from Amazon bestselling author of the Ruthless People series, J.J. McAvoy…

After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.
With everyone in class vying to be one of the twelve disciples—a group of twelve students that Professor Black takes under his wing—tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.
But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.
But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

Before I start with my review let's just appreciate the perfection which is the cover. I love how it's hot but doesn't show much skin. So now that I have given appreciation to the cover, let's ow go to my thoughts on this book.

If you have been reading my reviews for a while then you have realized by now that I love teacher-student relationships. So when I saw that McAvoy would be releasing this book I knew I just had to get it. Compared to other teacher-student romance books that I have read, this one was tamer in comparison. The heroine Thea Cunning was already 23 years old when she met Levi Black so there was no statutory rape and they met before she even knew he would be her professor.

Since I am taking a pre-law course and since I also want to be a lawyer, this book was perfect for me. I loved how they would fight for there case and how they could find loopholes.

I loved Thea Cunning because of the fact that she was would do anything to get what she wanted in life and never lets people push her around. I also love how she takes care of her sister because although it wasn't really her obligation, she still did it out of love. Another thing that I liked about her was that she wasn't that susceptible to insta-love. Thea was very hesitant into taking things further Levi which I find refreshing. Too much insta-love can kill a girls mood into reading too you know.

Levi Black was just a sexy mother---- add a sexy mind to the package? Equals to utter perfection. I love his wry sense of humor and the way he can be honest with Thea and not mince words. I also love how he has a sweet side which he only shows to Thea which I really think is so sweet.

"You are not a black rainbow. I see every one of your colors. You may have been one once, but you sure as hell aren't now."

And if that's not sweet enough for you then take a look at this.

"Star light, star bright, the many stars I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, keep this girl for the rest of my life."

I also loved the interracial romance between the two characters because although we are being more open-minded, interracial romance novels are still hard to find.

The plot was amazing and I love all the twists and turns in it that made the book more enjoyable to read. Compared to Ruthless People, this book was a lot more tamer and the characters are less likely to kill each other, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hot because it really was.

This book was very amazing and you would be missing something amazing if you don't decide to read this book.

Received digital edition in exchange for an honest review

    1. It's great to find someone who agrees with me. Interracial romances are harder to find than incest books and it's quite disturbing if you think about it.

  2. Woww...this book looks so good! And yes full marks to the cover. This is definitely going to my TBR.
If you are interested in more Lawyer romance, try Reasonable Doubt series from Whitney Gracia Williams. This series is pretty good and the the first book in this series is my fav. I am not sure if you have read it? If not, try it.
    And great review!
