A Warlocks MacGregor NovelContemporary Scottish Magickal Romance

A little magickal mischief never hurt anyone...

Erik MacGregor, from a clan of ancient Scottish warlocks, isn't looking for love. After centuries, it's not even a consideration...until he moves in next door to Lydia Barratt. It's clear that the shy beauty wants nothing to do with him, but he's drawn to her nonetheless and determined to win her over.

Lydia Barratt just wants to be left alone to grow flowers and make lotions in her old Victorian house. The last thing she needs is a demanding Scottish man meddling in her private life. Just because he's gorgeous and totally rocks a kilt doesn't mean she's going to fall for his seductive manner.

But Erik won't give up and just as Lydia let's her guard down, his sister decides to get involved. Her little love potion prank goes terribly wrong, making Lydia the target of his sudden embarrassingly obsessive behavior. They'll have to find a way to pull Erik out of the spell fast when it becomes clear that Lydia has more than a lovesick warlock to worry about. Evil lurks within the shadows and it plans to use Lydia, alive or dead, to take out Erik and his clan for good.

Plot: 4

Overall Rating: 4
Let me just say that I love the cover for this book since after reading, it really fit the story and the kilt was just an added bonus.

Love Potions was such a great book to read! Funny and passionate, this book makes an unlikely combo work. To be honest, I don't know a lot about Scottish Folklore and all that but Michelle Pillow's writing style gives you information about magick and Scottish Folklore without sounding as if it was taken directly from an encyclopedia.

Erik is a warlock who has been alive for a very long time already. And in that long span of time he still hasn't been able to meet his fíorghrá or as we commonly know as soul mate. And at first he was eager to find his soul mate but after loving for so long he lost hope already. So when he was the one assigned to find the next home for the MacGregor Clan and meets Lydia and realizes that she was the one he was looking for, he was prepared to do anything to get her.

The first half of the book wasn't that funny but shows a hint of humor here and there. The real part starts when Erik was under a love potion. I was expecting more action from this book so I was disappointed when only a little bit of action was shown.

The side characters were also good and I loved the ghost of Lydia's grandmother since she was funny as hell and makes the book better. I also liked how the author incorporated the possible characters for the second book so that readers would get a chance to know them more. This book was light and funny. No heavy drama included so it's a perfect read for people out there who are just trying to relax and have fun.

Love Potions was a book filed with magick, passion and humor. I can't wait to read for more.

Received digital edition from publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
